I have been doing my head in wrestling with problems of service out of the jurisdiction and drafting some of the most complicated statements of case I have yet had to deal with (involving claims in four jurisdictions), there being the added complication in this case that Previous Lawyers for my clients have not exactly covered themselves with glory, so we have to make sure the case is now spot-on.

Most of my readers won't understand all that, nor should they want to do so. Suffice it to say that my head hurts and I'm tired.

In fact, I ended up with a massive headache last night, while watching Threads and the Protect and Survive videos with Marna et al, and had to leave early. I'd forgotten how starkly depressing things like that were too... I still think I'd go for a quick death. The Protect and Survive stuff just made me remember this song, which the Saw Doctors, among others covered. (Jethro Tull did another one on the same lines, which Runrig covered. Apropos of nothing at all, Jethro Tull are (well, probably more accurate to say is, when you think about it) playing Budapest this weekend. Amazing, really, that there are people who still care enough to buy tickets.)

Bits and pieces...: this, from the Legal Underground, rings familiar bells, and not bells solely confined to my legal education either.

I was reminded this morning, by someone else who was on a similar flight to mine, of the fantastic experience of flying into London up the Thames on Monday morning. I don't remember ever coming quite that way before: the plane was fairly low by the time it was over central London, and it flew directly along the river: the most incredible panorama of the whole of London (well Zones 1&2) spread out beneath me. Fabulous.

While I was working at IWM, I frequently visited the post 1945 section to see stuff about the (first) gulf war. To get there, I had to walk past the protect and survive video (on a loop - arghhh) and the case with the leaflets in.

That particular campaign (were we about 7 then Marcus or slightly older?) was what made me aware that one day I was going to die. It also provided my little anxious self with much fodder and convinced me for quite a long time that I would die as the result of a nuclear bomb. I recall my mother telling me that I should walk towards the epicentre so that I would die more swiftly and not suffer a long drawn out death of radioactive illness. (ever the practical woman - you can see where I get all my jollity from).

And then there was that jolly little book, When the Wind Blows.

Annyway. I can't listen to the alarm noises without mu heart rate increasing.

Does anyone else remember practising "in the event of a nuclear disaster" drills at school? (everyone get under their desks!)

I agree about the terrifying.
Yes, When the Wind Blows was a response to the protect and survive series.

How odd that this has become the default way to communicate with you (rather than, say, ringing you up or meeting you).

If we move Islamic Art from Wed 7th to Tue 6th, Simon and Freddi can join us. Interested?

ah! I see. Hello Frankie.

Yes, I hear the Islamic thing is good. one of my colleagues went to the opening, as she did some work on something (or other, I don't know). anyway, I should go see too.

Have you been to the Institue du Monde Arabe in Paris? Last time I was there they had an exhibition about horses - amazing!

Hi Fiona,

Do come with us on 6th if you want. Plan as yet unformed.

Haven't been to I du M A, but sounds just my sort of thing. There's also some staggeringly beautiful Islamic stuff (technical term) in the new Enlightenment gallery at the BM.

On another note, Marcus informs me that there's no point in asking his advice about relationships, since he's a man and therefore differently wired. If you're bored, would be grateful if you'd check out my most recent post & give your views.

Hope all well with you
