I discovered the best cigarettes in the world on Saturday.
As those of you who know me well are aware, some years ago I came to the conclusion that 40 Marlboro a day was too much for my pocket to bear (and yes, they were full fat, but that's beside the point) and went over to half an ounce of rolling tobacco a day.
However, when I'm off to a Thing I quite often buy a packet, and since it's a rarity it's usually Turkish or something.
On the way to Ailbhe's wedding yesterday I stopped off at Smiths on the CXR to pick up a packet..
There were these things I'd never seen before. Called Treasurer. And they came in a metal cigarette case. And the filters were silver (coloured). And they were finest Virginian tobacco.
What's that you say, how much did they cost? How can you ask questions like that? Didn't you hear me say, the filters were silver and they came in a metal case, what does cost have to do with anything.
They also tasted brilliant. I have one left. Aand a case of course, I did mention the case, didn't I.
None of you understand.
OK. I've really got to give up. Maybe when I get back from Greece.
Anyways, Ailbhe and Rob's wedding: lovely yes. In Reading Town Hall (ceremony and reception), and in three languages, Irish, Swedish and English. The trilingual split coupled with the Swedish tradition that anyone who feels like it can make a speech led to competitive last wordism, a battle where I think the Irish, led by the redoubtable if hobbling Clanwilliam probably came off best. And many people were met, and much wine drunk. By me at least.
Today has been one of those days where I don't feel as though I've accomplished anything, though if one tots up all the little bits and pieces it actually looks quite creditable.
My financial adviser has been scaring me again. He doesn't want me to have any fun. Bet he wouldn't understand that the cigarettes had silver filters and came in a metal case either. (Though in day to day terms it does look as though things are beginning to straighten out.)
Tax advice finally done and dusted. Can't weigh into religious discussion running over on the Culture as much as I'd like due to shortness of time and crappiness of email arrangements. Doubtless by the time I weigh in tomorrow it'll all be over. Such is life.

Interestingly Alan1957 found a specialist tobacconist in Stratford where he also bought special cigarettes although they were in this case turkish and filterless with an unbleached heavy carboard gatefold case and little pictures rather than silver tipped and virginian with a metal case.
