The judgment of the Court of Appeal in a rather peculiar case which has already achieved some notoriety in the legal profession is now available on Bailii. I don't think I've ever read a report of a High Court judge being criticised so heavily, and personally, by the Court of Appeal. For various reasons I shan't comment further, though I do recommend the read-in transcript at para 17 on.

I just read it all, and for the first time ever actually managed just about to follow the whole of a legal thing. Classic stuff. That Mr Crampin QC is a bit of a hero, no... talk about a cool customer.

bloody embarrassing for the judge. What happens to him now?

I particularly liked the judge's warning of "professional consequences".

Friends on the Northern Circuit say that his reponse (before he achieved his current elevation) to attempys to implied pressure often included a removal of jackets and an invitation to take the air outside.

That was rather entertaining. The judge did look particularly foolish, to my legally ignorant eyes.

INteresting take on this in today's Telegraph where the legal editor threatens to apply for the correspondence in October if there's no resignation by the relevant party.

Extraordinary

You may be reluctant to say anything further but my co-blogger was happy to comment at length...
