(BBC)
(Via, of all people, Boris.)

I suppose it was only a matter of time.

[Technorati] now estimates that the number of blogs in existence has exceeded 4.8 million, although some speculate that less than a quarter are regularly maintained.

I know some people are snobby about livejournal, but, um, there are some 5,000,000 accounts here alone.

but,

will Microsoft Spaces be like Hotmail accounts that get deactivated if you don't use them in 3 months?

I was hoping I wasn't the only one thinking that would be possible. That's just so oppressive.

'in the shade of its teen angst'? I don't understand what that means, but that could be because I'm feeling too tired right now.

homicidal ones. Do you think that MS will be any better? I doubt it. Or will enforcing people to post so as to keep their blog working attract older people? Frankly, that's what put me off using hotmail once I lost my account because I wasn't using it (together with the horrible interface that wouldn't help me re-activate my account). The idea that I had to use it or lose it made me angry - especially when there were other alternatives with no strings attached.

sorry

I totally misunderstood. Too tired, as I said.

Or did I? I did - somewhere. Sorry!

Is livejournal seen as Blog-lite or something then? o.O

I think having to fanny about with any more technology just to run a blog would have me reverting to about age 5 and bursting into tears! I can't figure out how to change this one from the bog standard settings as it is :)

The Code of Conduct says Microsoft reserves the right to remove user-created services and content that advocate or encourage expressions of violence, bigotry, racism, hatred, obscenity, or profanity. I don't think non-swearing blogs are going to catch on...
