A thought from another place I read... how long before we start to worry about orally ingested explosives. Or worse: those anal (and vaginal) probes GRRM mentions may be on the cards in the not too distant future.

Another thought which worries me - will it mean no booze on flights? After all, the terrorists can tamper with it before it is supplied and then all they need to do is stroll to the bar and detonate it...

No liquid is allowed into US airports. Also nothing that could hold a liquid such as bottles or cups. Yes, seriously, cups. Empty cups.

Well, empty cups can be used to urinate in, and then hey make a bomb out of the urine. Imagine the destruction caused by flying pieces of empty paper/plastic cups...

But really, the terrorists have won. They wanted people to stop drinking and now we can't drink during flights...

There is actually a theory going round that the plot was only expected or intended to succeed in the way it has: causing massive disruption. Don't buy it though.

And so close after the "don't fly for the sake of the environment". It's made me think twice about short haul but won't neccessarily put me off flying to oz to visit my brother and family - as long as they allow books and water and ear plugs!

Well, one apparently can't be facetious enough these days...

I don't buy it either. Liquid explosives are not a bad weapon, especially since it would have been a while before people figured out how they were exploding the planes.

There has been a lot of activity on the Pakistani front these days - this plot, then the house arrest of the LeT head, a couple of other episodes. And I can't decide if this is a series of good luck, or tactics designed to take the heat off Pakistan for something big which is on the cards for the next few months.

I've read things to the effect the Pakistani security services were vital in breaking the plot. I always get worried when they are seen as the good guys...
