Date: 2005-10-07 08:01 am (UTC)One possibly mental possibly quite acute theory not mentioned there that has been put forward has to do with the discrepancy between the versions that imply the Last Supper was a passover meal and the implication (of John I think) that Saturday was the passover. As I vaguely remember it, it's to the effect that the Essenes (not mentioned by name in the gospels, unless they're the Herodians which has been argued, but clearly having some effect on Jesus and John the Baptist) kept a different calendar which Jesus followed, if you add in that factor and try and come up with a year in which Essene passover fell two days before mainstream passover you get an answer for year and date. Which I forget.
