...obviously I will, after all, need to make those plans to be anywhere in the world but London. Other than that, I'm still debating whether the massive council tax hike will be worth it to pay for Chirac losing. Probably.

The thing itself? No, actually, I don't give a toss. I don't bother watching the Olympics when they're anywhere else, why should I care when they're here?

ETA: after a long absence, This Isn't London is first to make me laugh about it.

2. In order to handle overwhelming strain on the Tube and rail networks, £2.3bn is to be spent to make absolutely sure that all the "network status" whiteboard have the swanky velcro stick-on "serious delays" notifiers; otherwise railway staff risk RSI writing it in with marker pen each time....

Yeah, have close to zero interest in spectator sport myself. Such attitudes are considered almost sacrilegious by a large proportion of people in Australia. I avoided and ignored the Sydney Olympics in 2000, and people were just dumbfounded by this.

Perhaps you could sublet your appartment while you're out of the city to offset against the cost of the tax hike? ;-)

I think not. God knows where and in what kind of place I shall be living at the time. If it was next year... well if I were my landlord then on commercial grounds I'd be inclined to serve notice on all my tenants in time to relet at vastly inflated prices.

Refreshing to read this perspective, since most people seem to be going, for want of a better phrase, a bit mental. I don't really care where it is - I quite like watching, but I can do that from anywhere.

Manchester's recent Commonwealth Games and our subsequent hike in council tax has put me off such things.
