I'm not sure if it's because I'm feeling pretty shite, or a technical thing, or my television, or something else, but musically speaking all the Live8 performances I've caught in between flipping back and forth from Wimbledon coverage seem to me to be... lacking something. And Madonna's hit two vilely bum notes in the time I've been sitting here typing this, which isn't like her. Odd.

ETA: and Peaches Geldof is such a sloane. Unless she's taking the piss, which is possible: I did think her assertion that the most thrilling person she'd bumped into back stage was her sister Pixie betrayed a possible sense of humour. Oooh, Will Smith in Philadelphia is looking like a reasonably decent performance.

I thought she went a bit flat in places but it did seem like the song wasn't quite at the right speed as well. Didn't seem to gel at all.

oh oh I just turned it on,,, I had forgotten all about it. There is someone singing so badly (Snoop Dogg?) I want to cover my ears.

It's all terrible. DMB was dire (except I was transfixed by The Dave's enduring ability to raise each eyebrow at will) and dirgelike. Elton John (the 25 second highlight "from earlier") wasn't too bad, and Sting was looking good for his age. Dido was embarrassing. Mariah Carey is plain awful. Green Day trying to channel Queen was cringeing. Maroon 5 are playing now in Philly and they sound OK on the TV but I can imagine (because of the stupid way the crowd is arranged along the avenue to the Museum of Art) they would suck if you were standing in the crowd.

I'm still holding out for Bryan Adams.

Mariah Carey really showed up her diva-osity, didn't she? Imperious beckoning onstage of her assistant with a drink, and calling for a mike stand and then getting snotty when one wasn't forthcoming!
