That makes six, with one more on the way. In a few years time Christmas is going to be quite unfeasibly expensive. Still, at least my brother and his wife have produced a son, thus removing from me any patriarchal responsibility to ensure the family name carries on. Hurray for them.

Nope. Sex determination is against the law here and doctors can be imprisoned if they let the parents know the sex of the foetus. Female foeticide is a huge problem...in all social and economic strata.

Yes. They think they sort of ARE Poles - remember how big medeival Poland was. But don;t worry, I don't think they want to take it over, even if they could cos it was so long ago, they just sort of think, ah yes, that all was Poland and then the Rookies took it over, we're glad it's free now. So they prefer that remains Ukraine rather than having a border with the Russians, whom they hate.

In the months leading up to our marriage my mom would tell me we had to have a boy because Kim's an only child (and only grandchild at that), which really bugged the hell out of me. She seems to have relaxed about it after I asked her last week not to make it a subject of converstion every time we talk.
