Two days after spending a fortune having the laptop mended I've bust the screen. Well, it's semi-useable but there are black blots all over the left half.

Are laptop screens actually replaceable. And is it worth it?

I've heard that you can repair and/or replace them, but the procedure is, to say the least, None Too Cheap.

As in dropped the laptop, or smashed the screen in a fit of rage? Damn. Er, maybe you should get a new, more study laptop?

I checked with my Dad and he said that it usually works out better to get a new laptop, if you really think that the screen is beyond repair.

You could buy a laptop shell, which is basically the screen, case and keyboard, and put the processor, memory and hard disk of your old laptop into that. The shell costs about £300, so that might be a viable solution, but it depends on how old your laptop is. What's the model and make of your laptop?

That sounds a possibility but I'd still have to get someone else to fit it: don't feel competent to do so myself.Didn't realise one could get laptop shells.
It's an Acer Aspire 1300. It *looks* as though with the right tools the whole top cover, including screen, can just be taken off. Going to spend some time on TCR investigating options: may well have to pick up a second hand laptop.
Absolutely furious: just spent 200 quid on the fucker. And I'm flat stoney at the moment.
