Glastonbury
Jun. 28th, 2004 03:35 pmWell, it went something like this....
Oh soddit, I can't be bothered to write anything sensible, I'm too tired.
Victoria, met Chrysaphi, wended way to Somerset via Oxford and a small mistaken diversion, struggle to Spring Ground where Marna and co. were camping, (was half way through football by then, not that I gave or give a toss, but was amused to see the Pyramid already had one of the largest crowds I have ever seen there watching on the screens), found Marna and co and put up tents, wandered out into site with them... slept.
And then...
Breakfast... Wandering, wanderin, Oi Va Voi (entirely by chance, never heard of them, absolutely fabulous), Taima acoustic, Jerry Fish and the Mudbug Club (!), Baghdaddies, PJ Harvey, Goldfrapp, Chemical Brothers, Levellers acoustic, not sure what happened after that before going to bed, woke up to the expected sound of rain, things already looking bad mudwise but saw Taima on the Pyramid anyway, wander wander breakfast Resonators, Scissor Sisters on the Pyramid, having taken steps to avoid become depressed by the continuing rain, um, possibly as a result of said steps really not sure what happened from then until about 9.30 and the second Scissor Sisters set in the dance tent except that I think I caught Keane, saw the end of Macca (well, it's only polite, besides he was doing mainly Beatles, though the high point was the fireworks in Live and Let Die frankly) and then wandering and going to obscure things until about 4 AM, the mud going from bad to worst but well past caring by then, bed, woke up 8 and did organised things such as take some cash out and recharge my phone, lay around in tent, Divine Comedy, various folk-roots type stuff in the Greenfields, James Brown for a bit (as with Macca, when a living legend is on site it would be rude not to) Belle & Sebastian (where I managed to meet Greyarea and his better half, just in time for a mercifully short but very hard squall), Suzanne Vega (stunningly good), Muse for a bit (I hadn't meant to go at all but I passed by and was struck by the thought that Radiohead had turned up after all, only someone had turned up their cheerfullness factor just a half-notch) and then finally dancing, for the very last time, to Orbital. Back up to Greenfields and Lost Vagueness, and the rest of the night is indeed lost in vagueness, bed around 3, up at 6.30 in a panic because I thought my phone said 8.30 and we'd planned to be off the site by 9, which we therefore actually managed, stopped at Fleet Services, which was full of festival traffic, back to Victoria by 1.30 Tube tube (north London also full of people in similar states of dress and cleanliness to me), BATH.
Now I need some food. And then SLEEP.
Much thanks to Chrysaphi for all the driving.
Good festival all round, despite the rain. The people who say "it isn't like it used to be" always turn out to mean "like it used to be in 2000" when they first came. Well, in 2000 it wasn't like 1995, and 1995 wasn't like... and so on back to 1970.

Date: 2004-06-28 12:14 pm (UTC)Polly Harvey was absolutely stunning, one of the best performances I've seen. Lamb were also very good but the Chemicals continue to suffer from big-build-no-drop-itis. The Zutons surprised me by giving a really good set despite the fact I don't particularly like there songs.
