Welsh whisky returns after 100 odd years. Well, I'll give it a go.

Descending from the sublime to the semi-scatalogical, The Scary Duck has some wise words of wisdom for us all on the dangers of confusing pile cream with toothpaste. You should all take it to heart. If not elsewhere.

I may post a proper post later. Or I may not. I like to keep a certain sense of uncertainty and anticipation alive in the world. More to the point, I'm quite busy and a bit flu-y.

(Edited to add: I'm also watching with some fascination the storm Brad's kicked off by being somewhat less than complimentary about the deceased Marxist economist Paul Sweezy. Not that I actually know anything about Sweezy or his views: indeed it's just the perverse pleasure I receive from watching the bitter debates of others from the sidelines.)

my prof actually brought in some welsh whisky on our last day of class (the one with interesting ideas concerning indiana jones and faeries). it wasn't that bad....odd..kind of heavy and sweeter than i'm used to whisky being.

Wow!!

I was actually in Penderyn the weekend before last. No sign of any whisky, just plenty of real ale. A 4yr old, is really cutting it fine in terms of what you're allowed to call malt whisky (3yo is the legal definition), and I doubt that there'll be much to rave about. But like you said I'll be sure to give it a go if i get the chance.

On a related note, I attended a tasting of Isle of Arran single malts last Thursday. It's one of Scotland's youngest distilleries (opened in 1995), and it already producing some fine spirits. For the rescord the tasting included:
Robbie Burns branded malt
Isle of Arran Malt
Isle of Arran Malt (non chillfiltered)
Isle of Arran Malt Calvados Finish, single cask malt at 61% abv
Isle of Arran Malt Cognac Finish, single cask malt at 59% abv
Isle of Arran Malt Sherry Finish, single cask malt at 59% abv

Oh dear

Then I shouldn't mention that I also got to taste the 2003 bottling of Midleton earlier that evening??? No, I thought not.
Bowmore's one of the Islay whiskys that I've not really sampled, and when they produce so many different varieties....
Somene should organise another CrowCon in Scotland!!
