Feb. 9th, 2004 02:58 pmMemo to self before going to bed last night: "must remember to pay that cheque into the bank this morning."
On arriving at bank this morning, bright and early, I pull various crumpled pieces of paper out of my fleece pocket. Print-out of fees received in last calendar year... no, but must remember to take the figure off that and put it into my professional liability form otherwise it'll be overdue. Print-out of fees received in Jan... no, but must remember to write a cheque for Head Clerk's commission and also pay the VAT element into the account where my taxes live until they're due. Credit card bills.. yes, that's the main thing I'm here for. Now where is that cheque...
Bugger.
In a panic, I spend lunch trudging back to Primrose Hill, as I've already dropped this cheque and retrieved it only through undeserved luck once already. Find the bugger sitting in the slightly organised pile of papers on my table (as opposed to the "pile of things to organise at least slightly" that occupies much of the floor).
Do I remember to put it in my pocket?
Do I bollocks.
Ho hum. Still, it's a glorious day, Spring seems just around the corner, and I've had a good weekend. Apart from the utterly undeserved killer hangover on Saturday morning that is. Found a good new Italian restaurant, received some surprising and good news, saw someone I haven't seen for ages, did something I'm hardly going to publish to the wider world.
Oh, and watched Angels in America. Interesting, but two things: (1) showing the whole thing back to back to gone midnight on a Sunday possibly unwise (2) would probably have more of a clue about what was going on sooner if I hadn't missed the start.
Reading The Dante Club. Good so far (particularly as the author evidently thinks Oliver Wendell Holmes Jnr was something of a tosser, as do I) but also.. eeeugh.

Date: 2004-02-09 08:33 am (UTC)Am impressed with the Dante Club so far. But still... ewwww.
Don't know what the American edition is like, but the UK edition has something embossed on the cover from which there's a mildly pleasant tactile sensation as you read... until you realise it's a fly... ewww.

Date: 2004-02-10 03:13 am (UTC)I really have to go look at the book cover. I went briefly at Borders yesterday but I forgot to look it up.
Re: Kick in the teeth
Date: 2004-02-10 03:26 am (UTC)About Koko's temperament, she has spent a lot of time with my parents lately, without me. My mom now tells me that she prays for me every night.
*l*
The 'just wait till you have kids of your own' phase didn't last too long.....
