Memo to self before going to bed last night: "must remember to pay that cheque into the bank this morning."

On arriving at bank this morning, bright and early, I pull various crumpled pieces of paper out of my fleece pocket. Print-out of fees received in last calendar year... no, but must remember to take the figure off that and put it into my professional liability form otherwise it'll be overdue. Print-out of fees received in Jan... no, but must remember to write a cheque for Head Clerk's commission and also pay the VAT element into the account where my taxes live until they're due. Credit card bills.. yes, that's the main thing I'm here for. Now where is that cheque...

Bugger.

In a panic, I spend lunch trudging back to Primrose Hill, as I've already dropped this cheque and retrieved it only through undeserved luck once already. Find the bugger sitting in the slightly organised pile of papers on my table (as opposed to the "pile of things to organise at least slightly" that occupies much of the floor).

Do I remember to put it in my pocket?

Do I bollocks.

Ho hum. Still, it's a glorious day, Spring seems just around the corner, and I've had a good weekend. Apart from the utterly undeserved killer hangover on Saturday morning that is. Found a good new Italian restaurant, received some surprising and good news, saw someone I haven't seen for ages, did something I'm hardly going to publish to the wider world.

Oh, and watched Angels in America. Interesting, but two things: (1) showing the whole thing back to back to gone midnight on a Sunday possibly unwise (2) would probably have more of a clue about what was going on sooner if I hadn't missed the start.

Reading The Dante Club. Good so far (particularly as the author evidently thinks Oliver Wendell Holmes Jnr was something of a tosser, as do I) but also.. eeeugh.

I enjoyed the Dante Club. I think you will, too.

I am jealous of your soon-to-be spring weather. I trudged through thigh-high snow this morning.

Er, didn't you notice that when you bought the book? It's on the Lalpile, and is due to be read after _The Rise of Endymion_, a re-read of _Ilium_ and the Hughart books.

In case you're interested, the new Anthony O'Neil (_Scherazade_ writer) book, _The Lamplighter_ is out.

If he gives me an opening, I certainly would endeavour to do so. Also, if it doesn't pain you greatly, could you kindly call me kicker-of-the-teeth-of rather than hob-nobber-with? Thank you. :)

Currently I am trying to stop myself from being *too* snide to DanM over on Brin...

well, it's a dead (and hopefully quite mummified) fly. What harm can it do? (she asked innocently!)

I really have to go look at the book cover. I went briefly at Borders yesterday but I forgot to look it up.

About Koko's temperament, she has spent a lot of time with my parents lately, without me. My mom now tells me that she prays for me every night.

That's alright for one off information but not debate. And debate there would have been. Even posting information lead to me being drawn into debate with that spacker Coffey.

Yes, I'm being defensive. And?

Just two reviews are due dammit! Well, three, but one is for _Kalpa Imperial_ which I bought myself, so I have less of an obligation to review it other than saying I would. I think at this point Ariel just says "Yeah whatever" and then only believes me when he actually see a review.

Anyway, Martin is already acting as my regular reminder/conscience/kick up the arse. Don't you start as well! :P

Can you give me the link to the archive for his response to your second post? My Dad's computer died a death (third computer in two years. He's looking at me suspiciously these days) and so I've been unable to download Brin-L mails, and I refuse to subscribe to Brin-L at work.

There is no timesink big enough to get me through work.

Besides, my body runs on one of these (http://www.theonion.com/4005/news1.html).

What the fuck is a 'baffron' exactly? Dictionary.com wasn't exactly forthcoming.

Well, you could subscribe and set yourself to nomail. Then read the archive, and post when you want to.

Tell me about it. At the moment, I have nothing to do but still have to look busy. I can't manage it so I email and read LJ, and then my team leader makes snarky comments about me emailing. Wtf? How many more times do you want me to ask you for work you idiot?

BrinL *is* a timesink and I rarely peep in there but it is a strangely fascinating place - peopled with all kinds of weird life-forms, some which spout really strange ideas and philosophies.

Besides, I usually don't feel bad being snide over there....
