Katy is a kind soul and passed on the link without judging. I, however, am bitter, twisted, and a bit of a git, and have no such compunction. They're all mad I tell you, utterly mad. In particular:

"1. These people believe in reincarnation.
2. Specifically, they believe that they are the reincarnated spirits of characters from Japanese cartoons and video games."

The internet is a Big Mistake and Must be Stopped.

I may actually make a proper post at some point, alternatively I may just go home and drink, in order to avoid worrying about how I'm going to pay that nice Mr Brown. Time will tell.

As I was just saying, or rather writing, to someone else (and hence the existence of the link on my clipboard) the new application of the term only entered my consciousness due to desultory reading of an article in some colour supplement or review section over Christmas. I am now dearly hoping it won't hit these shores big time...

Sadly, emo is being touted as some kind of "been around forever" (well, since the 80's) type of thing... and I suppose, by definition of the music, it has been... but you know, prior to some club kids giving it some cutesy name, it was all just music, dammit!!

Really, I missed most of that, being more of the gothy-newage-oldcountry-jazz type myself...

Hmmm, I've always wanted to be Lara Croft: the estate, the grand collection of cars (drool!) and tits that defy gravity as well could be used as lethal weapons. Instead I am poor, drive a Honda Civic (which I adore but can't afford to customise to my taste just yet), and my tits are real instead of Made in China like all the other L.A. lasses.

Actually, I think having some sort of personal mythology like this is what keeps a lot of people sane. I'm coming to think that it's just an individualised version of the same impulses that are responsible for collective religion. I think I'll read along for a while :-)

The thought had occurred to me, but I think it's a question of degree rather than type. A belief in reincarnation simpliciter, ie that one is the reincarnation of actual historical figures is, I agree, closely comparable to other forms of religion. I don't personally believe in it, but I don't see anything in it which raises, to me, questions of sanity. Otherkin take that a step further, but again I can see a coherent and sane belief system. The problem I see with this further step is that they say they are the incarnations of characters who were in fact created by individuals within recent living memory, and that I do find disturbing.

I agree with the point you make about religion and sanity in general. Though one is heading for the dangerous area of what "insanity" is (ask Dr_D I guess). Then there's the philosophical question of whether one can talk about an objective "reality" in any case, though I am personally convinced one can.

Yes, I see the distinction. I think my attitude to it is a bit like Pratchett's attitude to gods - that they take on a sort of reality if people believe in them fervently enough.

In all honesty, I don't think I could ever be happy with breasts so large... I *love* shoes; if I could never see my feet again, there would be a huge problem.

No, I think I would need to use mirrors. Maybe attach side view mirrors, like on cars, but instead of viewing behind, have them pointed down at my feet. With a chest that size, if one looked straight down, she'd just get an eyeful of... well, chest. I suppose there are other options, but a girl has got to do other things sometimes besides being on her back with her legs up in the air.
