Nov. 22nd, 2003 04:27 pmIt's a quarter past four on a Saturday afternoon and I'm sitting in my silent office writing about bankruptcy as the rain pours down outside. Bah, humbug.
I seem to be extremely busy all of a sudden, which for a self-employed barrister with a serious black hole in their finances is by and large a good thing, but I could do with something of a break. For the present though, my posts here and elsewhere are likely to be limited in number and lacking in substance, or indeed interest.
Heigh ho. Clique Christmas dinner tonight. Which would take too long to explain to those who don't already know what it is, suffice it to say it's a bright spot in an otherwise bleak life (ah, poor me). I've just been shopping for the Christmas presents for it. In accustomed fashion, I ended up buying things for myself as well (this is where the black hole in my finances comes from: the truth is I should be barred from any outlet that allows me to spend money on books on credit). Unusually, one of the things I bought was a boo of the genre I usually sneeringly describe as Christmas Cash-In Crap. However, it has the saving merit of taking the piss out of one of the worst examples of that genre from last year: Schott's Original Miscellany, a work compiled, I suspect, after about three hours of random google searches. This year's offering, Shite's Unoriginal Miscellany does at least include such gems as "Twelve Random British TV Video-Plus Numbers For 28th June to 4th July 2003" and "A list of common makes of combine harvester".
Oh look, it appealed to me. Comments involving the words "fool", "money", and "parted" will be treated with the contempt they deserve. Incidentally, Virgin has some good "5 DVD's for £30" offers at present.
Rain continues to pour down over London and swirl in the gutters.. Peering out of the window all seems dark and silent, though I can't believe I'm the only person working in Lincoln's Inn at the weekend. I should be setting off for Kake's but it's warm here and I can smoke without having to protect my cigarette from the rain...
