I was going to write a proper entry, but I'm feeling tired, depressed, and lonely, and that's about all I can think to say. The classic London autumn drizzle never fails to bring about this kind of mood in me.

After Friday's fiasco (I didn't even include the nightmare train journey from hell -four crowded hours instead of three due to "animals on the line"- in my post here) I wandered along to London Culture drinking, and as a result forgot to eat: on waking the next day I concluded the reason I felt quite so ill might be not unconnected to the fact I hadn't eaten properly since Thursday lunch.

Other than that I spent the weekend doing very little, save going round to Rob and Steph's to be fed (which was v.good: thanks Rob). I'd intended to spend the weekend sorting my life out, and in particular, tidying my flat, but somehow time just spun away and energy and enthusiasm never arrived.

I did spend part of Sunday wandering round the National looking at Claudes and Poussins, but to be honest I wasn't really in the mood. Hopefully I shall be more engaged if and when K. gets her hands on comps. for the Lloyd-Webber PRB collection at the RA. All in all, everything seems a bit empty. I just wasted about an hour in Blackwells and the Virgin Megastore looking for books and music to cheer me up, but nothing really caught my fancy.

Miserable git amn't I? Chiz chiz mone grumble.

PS: why does livejournal sporadically forget I'm logged in, only to remember when I hit reload? It seems to happen mainly when using IE, though I think it's happened with Mozilla as well.

And no, possibly not, but there will be food and drink and people and presents, which should help with the mood, I hope.

sounds as if you and i had the same sunday ... i was this close to running over to the MET to let the Rodins heal bits of my soul, but then decided it wasn't quite the thing. Never did figure out what 'the' thing was.

And November's just a hard month, I think. Courage.

I found the Met. a bit over-powering when I was last there, too crowded... but then I was just a Foreign Tourist at peak time.

You have to know where to go ... you can't just throw yourself into it ... you need agendas and a plan. There are quiet places (esp. the Asian stuff in the back on the second floor - there's a lovely rock garden that is usually empty) and it takes a great many people to make the Egyptian Temple feel crowded ...

but, sadly, yes. On a Sunday afternoon, I would have had to knock a thousand tourists out of my way to get to the Rodins ... which is part of the reason I didn't go. This city would delightful if it weren't for all the damn people.

I feel much the same way about London. Although in some ways, Oxford, being smaller and therefore more full of tourists per square inch, is even worse.

Yeah. I grew up near about 10 towns of that quaint college' type ... and the level of tourist density, especially during the peak seasons, was most profoundly annoying. I think it's partially because the tourists are at least marginally on their guard in the cities, and therefore pay slightly more attention to what's going on around them than they do when they're wandering down tiny cobblestone streets...

That being said, I've been a tourist at Oxford. And for that I'm sorry.

I haven't tried to incorporate it into my everyday speech yet (I still get odd looks when I ask "What is up?"), but I do know the etymology of the word and that it is more correct than saying "I'm not." It's the great grand-daddy of "ain't," which is actually more correct than "I'm not," it just sounds like it's less educated.

That's what I learned anyway. Maybe I'll research it over the weekend. Heh, I want to do this for fun. I am such a dork =)

It's perfectly normal Hiberno-English. But I've been learning not to use it since I moved over here.
