Oct. 30th, 2003 06:52 pmI'm honestly not entirely sure whether it's thunder rumbling over London or fireworks. If its the latter I can't see them and they've chosen a bad night for it.
Good. I've never been keen on fireworks, I grew too similar to my dog, an Irish Setter who went into a month of hysterics when the season began. And in any event, I find the whole Guy Fawkes thing dubious enough -burning effigies of people I find fairly unpleasant, despite my usual sympathies with longstanding tradition, even before considering things like the link I and many others posted yesterday- and the extension of the season to approximately a month is somewhat too much, though I suppose it could be argued that this actually detracts from the link between fireworks and him...
Sorry, I've had a very long day, wrestling with an extremely... nice, in the archaic sense of the word, problem on the interpretation of a will. I've read more pre-1800 cases in a day than is good for me, and it was a pissy little point in any event.
Still, it's done and I'm taking most of tomorrow off.. I shall be at a loose end in Oxford by about three, for the benefit of those reading this to whom it might be of relevance.
