It's clearly going to be a bad day when I arrive in work at 10.15 having achieved levels of fury and loathing rarely achieved even during the evening rush hour. Half the trains on the jubilee line, which serves as a Northen line replacement for those of us coming in from Primrose Hill, Belsize Park, etc, taken out of service.

I came almost to the brink of the kind of breakdown I once saw a commuter have at Reading Station: the police were called eventually on that occasion. I bottled it in, but the first person who gives me a good excuse to be annoyed with them today may regret it.

Showing off my massive ignorance of London geography, how long would it take you to walk in rather than get the tube? Or even cycle?

Don't have a bike. Three-quarters to an hour to walk, but it's bloody cold.

The more I hear (and experience) the British train service the more ridiculous I think it is.

Ah well, trains as in overland trains are a distinct though parallel problem....
the tube just seems to get worse and worse, and when it isn't properly functioning London begins to stop working. It's a nightmare.

Mind you, at least it's somewhat more comprehensive than either the Athens Metro (new airport to stadium line by next summer, oh yes, I'll believe that when I see it...) or the Dart (to pre-empt the anticipated chorus of "you lot don't know how lucky you are" from Fionna, Ailbhe, Clanwilliam, and Sorcha).

Your pre-emptive policy is much better than a few I have witnessed lately but there was a hole just my size in it....

People don't carry out weird experiments in the London Metro, the buses arrive and have seating space, the trains work too. In Delhi, you need a iron-tipped [sharpened] umbrella to use the buses, there are no local trains, metro is not only adventurous but also not a proper network yet. Which leaves you with three choices:
Taxis - expensive with maniacal drivers who aim for the many potholes in the roads.
Autorickshaws - Less expensive, worse drivers: people have been known to fly out of the autos, straight into the path of the incoming traffic.
Walking/cycling/tongas/Harley Davidson carriers - useful only in certain localities within Delhi.
