OK, so why didn't anyone tell me how good Pirates of the Caribbean was? In particular why didn't anyone tell me how funny it was.

I thought it scored pretty highly on all counts, really: script, acting, plot, SFX, totty, comedy and the rest. I started writing "the best film I've seen since..." but then realised that I haven't seen a film in the cinema for ages, quite possibly not since City of God, which I thought was one of my top 20 or so films ever, so that doesn't work.

Surprising amount of work for British small screen comedy actors too. And how the hell did Jack Davenport manage to land a major supporting role on the big screen? Granted he's still playing Miles from This Life in everything he does, and I suspect he always will, but that isn't such a bad part to play.

A large amount of dross in the trailers, but three I shall be going to see. Bright Young Things was already on the list, but does look good, and, obviously, Return of the King has been on the list since 1999. Granted, the trailer probably showed the best artistic and SFX shots, but it looks fantastic. The susprise was the Disney thing, Nemo or whatever it's called. But then, I've long had a dirty secret: I really love Disney when they stick to doing what they know.

Finally, just a reminder that I shall be drinking on Saturday, being my Official Birthday. (My Private Birthday is next Tuesday). Here, which is probably going to turn out to be a bad idea, but it's done now. Come along if you feel like it.

Yes, well, Pirates of the Caribbean is, in fact, a fabulous movie. Twelve thousand screaming girls chanting "Sparrow! Sparrow!" can't be wrong.

I dunno how you missed the massive wittering about how brilliant it is; it was all over my friends page for about a fortnight!

Though I think the corset line is slightly less funny the second time around. The Bloody Pirates line is still just as good though.

Avast!

A.

I absolutely loved "Pirates"! I'm surprised, though: has "Finding Nemo" really not crossed the Atlantic yet??? It was released long before "Pirates" was. (BTW, "Nemo" is great!)

Great film. Proper swashbuckling adventure, great fun, good script, good sets, all round good acting - and Johnny Depp just made the film for me. He was *fab*.

Indeed. You did, I did, and I believe Rik did too, among other people. And not just on the List.

Anyway, I saw the film of "Mr In-Between" and it was pretty cool though quite different to the book in places.

Looking forward to tommorow night, despite annoying band photo shoot beforehand.

Would have loved to come, but trial and error suggests that I need to give my back a chance to recover from the working week by not subjecting it to weekend Tube journeys, if I want to see any improvement at all :-(

Now, does one offer birthday greetings on one's Official Birthday, or the Private one?

What the hell - I split the difference and offer it late at night on Sunday ...

Happy Birthday, sir. Had I any liquor, I'd have a drink in your honour.
