Sep. 9th, 2003 01:42 pmSalaam Pax was on Today this morning. Vaguely strange to hear the voice of someone I've been reading for more than half a year now. Was somewhat surprised that he seemed generally positive about the war, albeit guardedly.
Maybe it's a mixture of coincidence and my paying close attention to it, but Today does seem a tad toned down in its treatment of politicians at present, incidentally.
C.H. Sisson has died. Maybe there'll be a revival of interest in his poetry now: personally I think it would be well deserved.
And the stage adaptation of His Dark Materials is on at the National this autumn. Looks like a good cast, save that I'm unsure about Patricia Hodge as Mrs Coulter. Anna Maxwell Martin (Lyra) was excellent in the recent Stoppard Sea Coast of Bohemia trilogy there, playing among other roles the major part of Michael Bakunin's kid sister in the first play. As, I suppose, one would expect of someone who was cast in the premiere of a Stoppard play at the National pretty much straight from RADA, if I remember my programme notes correctly.
It's been split into two plays.
I still hate the fact that I'm back. But at least it's autumn, my favourite season in England, so long as I manage to get out of London.
Clique et al (and anyone else who is randomly interested) Dan is here...
And finally, hurrah for Marcus Trescothick et al. Never thought they'd pull that one off.
