Gorgeous sniffer (have just noticed original typo of snigger... now have wonderful image of a snigger dog) dog is nosing around beneath the main bank of library computers as I write this. Apparently some big event is taking place here tonight (something to do with Pakistan) and security is tighter than a gnat's arse. Policemen all over the place asking me what I'm doing (my job, idiot). Incidentally, have they dropped the height requirement for the Met? I am noticeably taller than the chap outside, including his helmet, and I'm slightly under 6 foot.
Still, these organisations like having events here, we had the Falklands Society last week and her Thatchness was down to attend, though she didn't show, and there's something else next Monday (we have a massive garden and an enormous Victorian Gothic hall -1843, early for Vick Gothic actually- as well as a smaller real medieval one, see the poorly designed website at http://www.lincolnsinn.org.uk/ . The garden is currently having a fountain put in which I think has some Di connexion, making it, um, a bit late. Hopefully the dedication or whatever will be on a detachable plaque which can discreetly fall off and not be replaced...). Anyway, all these organisations pay good money, which benefits me as both a member and a professional tenant of the Inn, so I suppose I can't complain.
Nevertheless, I will, of course. Complaining is my life. And that's actually true, when one considers it.
Drinks with Simon and Freddy last night, only a mild hangover this morning. Those of you who know them will be pleased to know they're healthy and happy, those who don't doubtless couldn't care less (can someone explain the idiomatic usage of "could care less" to mean "couldn't care less" to me please?). Went to Soho House, which I confess to rather liking.
Coffee with K tonight, but nothing more significant, as I'm in court again tomorrow, and a recent fax has just altered the complexion of the case entirely. Um. So I should go and work on it, really.

Musharraf is in London and might be the reason behind the security.

Well, I'd agree with you about Mushy. He is our best bet in Pakistan these days. But some of the Pakistanis I know disagree with me. They hold that he has really bankrupted the country and given it over to the army. Hmm, that reminds me of a rather pithy comment made by Aiyer a few weeks ago. He said, 'The Pakistani army has firmly invaded and occupied the one country it is capable of treating so - Pakistan. And it won't let go now.' Mushy is one of the most sensible generals in the army and is more effective than the democratically elected leaders. The rest is a Pakistani problem, I'm afraid.
