For no particularly apparent reason there seem to be loads of street parties going on in London this weekend. Well, perhaps I exaggerate. There are certainly street parties in Soho and Primrose Hill, the two parts of London where I spend most of my time and money. And it's hot and sunny, so bugger sitting around on the internet for a game of soldiers.
A large number of Awaks and similar things have just gone over central London, each escorted by two fighters. Is something going on and no one bothered to tell me?

Queen's official birthday featuring a "flypast of pilots involved in the iraq war".

We paniced quite a bit - the first we heard were these huge explosions followed by (what looked like) a civilian jet being chased across London by two fighter jets. The explosions turned out to be the gun salute (we were at Tower Hill) but we really thought something nasty was going on...

But I am happy (and a bit bemused) to report that despite walking to within a few metres of the firing guns, Ciara slept through it all. Do you think she's a republican? She slept through the crown jewels as well.

Hah. All those who accuse me of being closet monarchist are now shown the error of their ways. Although I think in some corner of my brain I did realise.
Soho and Primrose Hill street parties unconnected though it seems. I ended up sitting at the next table to Chris Evans and Billy in a cafe in the Soho one.
